Voice Transcription

How It Works

Voice transcription automates Bible verse projection during preaching. The system listens to the preacher in real-time and automatically projects the verses mentioned.

  1. The microphone captures the preacher's audio.
  2. Soniox transcribes speech to text in real-time.
  3. AI detects Bible references in the transcribed text (e.g., "let's open John chapter 3 verse 16").
  4. Navigation automatically goes to the detected verse.

The verse appears a few seconds after it is spoken: the delay depends on your internet connection and on the end of the spoken sentence.

Supported Service

lixPresentr uses Soniox as its primary voice transcription service. Soniox offers high-quality speech recognition with low latency. lixPresentr offers it in French and English.

Connection required: Soniox is a cloud service. An internet connection is required for voice transcription, even with the desktop app. A Pro or Cloud subscription (or the 14-day trial) is required, along with a lixpresentr.app account linked to the app to have AI credits.

AI Credits

Voice transcription consumes AI credits: 1 credit per 30 seconds of transcribed audio, rounded up at the end of each microphone session. This balance is separate from your subscription: no plan includes monthly credits. 20 credits are offered when you create your account, then you top up with packs from Dashboard > AI Credits (from $4.99 for 5,000 credits).

  • 15 minutes ≈ 30 credits
  • 45-minute sermon ≈ 90 credits
  • 1 hour ≈ 120 credits
  • A month of four 45-minute sermons ≈ 360 credits, about $0.36 at the 5,000-credit pack rate
  • The 20 free credits ≈ 10 minutes of transcription: enough to test, not to cover a service

The app shows the remaining transcription time in the top bar and alerts you when the balance runs low.

Setup

Configure voice transcription in the application settings:

  1. Open Settings > Audio.
  2. Select the desired microphone from the list of detected devices.
  3. Adjust the VAD (Voice Activity Detection) sensitivity if needed. This parameter controls the voice detection threshold to filter ambient noise.

Usage

Two ways to activate transcription:

  • Mic button — Click the mic icon in the sidebar to start/stop transcription.
  • Auto button — Activates transcription with automatic projection of detected verses.

The current transcription displays in real-time in the Transcription panel. Two operating modes are available:

  • Semi-automatic — Detected references appear as suggestions. The operator validates each suggestion before projection. Recommended for beginners.
  • Automatic — Detected verses are projected immediately without manual validation. Ideal for experienced operators.

Contextual Commands

In addition to Bible references, the system recognizes voice commands for navigation:

  • "next verse" — Go to the next verse.
  • "next chapter" — Go to the next chapter.
  • "repeat" — Re-project the current verse.

Tips for Better Results

  • Microphone — A lavalier (lapel) microphone is ideal. A USB desk microphone is also acceptable. Avoid the computer's built-in microphone.
  • Ambient noise — Reduce background noise as much as possible. Background music or ventilation can affect accuracy.
  • Speech — Best results are obtained with full references ("John chapter 3 verse 16"), clear pronunciation, and a short pause after the reference.

Tip: Run a few minutes of testing before the service to verify the microphone is properly detected and transcription works correctly in your environment.
